Montgomery, AL. – During the Alabama House Democratic Caucus (AHDC) weekly Wednesday Press Conference held February 16, 2022, Rep. Pebblin Warren (D-Tuskegee) explained her sponsorship of HB331 which would ensure that students are only admitted to the first grade provided that they have completed Pre-K or have otherwise demonstrated their readiness for admission into the first grade.

According to Rep. Warren, “This bill is a critical step that will help ensure that students are able to reach the literacy benchmarks that they must achieve once they reach the third grade. Studies clearly show that Pre-K is a fundamental step toward long-term academic success and this bill will ensure that our youngest students begin on a solid foundation.”

Rep. Warren elaborated, saying, “This is another example of what House Democrats mean when we say “Pro-Innovation”- it’s about making small changes that have profound and significant effects. By taking a small innovative step to ensure that our youngest minds are prepared to meet the academic challenges of the future, we dramatically improve their chances for success in the classroom and, most importantly, throughout their lives.”
