Montgomery, AL. – During the Alabama House Democratic Caucus weekly press conference that was held Wednesday, February 2, 2022, Rep. Pebblin Warren’s (D-Tuskegee) remarks focused on public education and the need to spend American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds wisely in Alabama.
According to Rep. Warren, “Our teachers and retired teachers deserve a raise, but we must continue our efforts to eliminate the disparities in our public education system. It doesn’t make sense to spend $420 million in taxpayer dollars to subsidize profitable private or charter schools or homeschooling, at the expense of Alabama public schools that desperately need more money, resources, and support. As we said in our Pro-Growth, Pro-Innovation, and Pro-Alabama agenda, we know that a well-educated Alabama is how we secure our brightest future.”
Rep. Warren also noted, “House Democrats will strongly advocate for (ARPA) money to be used wisely for COVID-19 relief, preventative medical care, housing, and infrastructure priorities. Alabama taxpayers have a strong partner in House Democrats who will help them be certain that the Rescue Plan Act money is spent fairly, equitably, and with proper oversight.
